Approach and Values

At Be Mindful Nutrition, our work is grounded in compassion, respect, and an understanding that health and well-being look different for every individual.

We recognise that food, eating, and body image are influenced by lived experiences, systems, and environments, not just knowledge or willpower.

Our approach brings together non-diet, intuitive eating, trauma-informed, and neuro-affirming principles to support a more flexible, sustainable, and trusting relationship with food and body.

Our Approach and Philosophy

We follow a non-diet, intuitive eating approach, informed by Health at Every Size (HAES) principles, focusing on trust, flexibility, and empowerment rather than weight or restrictive rules.

This means we move away from weight-focused goals and instead support behaviours that promote overall well-being. We recognise that health is influenced by many factors and looks different for every individual. We work with you to find what feels realistic and sustainable in your life.

We help you to learn how to apply intuitive eating practices including reconnecting with your body’s cues for hunger, fullness, and satisfaction, while gently moving away from dieting patterns, food rules, and external expectations.

This approach helps individuals explore nutrition in a way that works for their life, body, and experiences, guided by evidence and respect for their autonomy.

Trauma-informed care

Our care is trauma-informed, recognising that past experiences can shape your relationship with food, your body, and how safe or manageable eating feels.

We create a space where you feel heard and supported, working collaboratively at a pace that feels right for you. Your choices and autonomy are always respected.

Our approach is flexible and individualised, taking into account your emotional and psychological well-being alongside nutrition.

Neuro-affirming Practice

We understand that neurodivergent individuals may experience food, body, and sensory experiences differently.

Our team provides neuro-affirming, client-centred support, tailoring each session to your unique needs, preferences, and ways of processing information. This may include adapting communication styles, incorporating sensory considerations, and developing practical, flexible strategies that work for you.

You remain an active participant in your care, with guidance and support that respects your autonomy and builds on your strengths.

Our Values

Our work is guided by a set of core values that shape how we support every individual who walks through our doors.

Empowerment

We support you to make choices that feel right for you, offering guidance and collaboration rather than prescriptive advice.

Individuality

We recognise that every person’s journey is unique and tailor care to your experiences, needs, and goals.

Compassion

We create a welcoming and inclusive environment grounded in empathy, kindness, and understanding.

Respect

Your lived experience matters. We centre your voice and perspective throughout your care.

Weight Inclusivity

We practice from a weight-inclusive perspective and recognise the impact of weight stigma. Our focus is on overall wellbeing rather than body size or weight.

What this means for you

When you meet with our dietitians, you can expect a welcoming and safe environment where your experiences are respected, your questions are answered, and your goals are explored collaboratively.

Whether in-person in Perth or via telehealth appointments, our team works to ensure every individual feels understood, supported, and empowered in their nutrition journey.
